Golf betting should be an enjoyable extension of watching the sport. For the vast majority of people who wager on The Open or the Masters, it remains exactly that — occasional, affordable, and entertaining. This page is here for the minority for whom it has become something else.

Self-exclusion via GamStop
GamStop is a free national self-exclusion scheme. Registering with GamStop blocks your access to all UKGC-licensed gambling websites and apps for a minimum of six months. You can also extend the exclusion period to one year or five years. Once registered, GamStop shares your details with all UKGC licensees, so you do not need to contact each operator separately.
Register at gamstop.co.uk. The process takes a few minutes and is effective within 24 hours.
Deposit and loss limits
Every UKGC-licensed bookmaker is required to offer deposit limits, loss limits, and time-out periods. You can set these directly in your account settings on each operator’s site. Deposit limits take effect immediately; reduction requests must be honoured within 24 hours. Increases to deposit limits are subject to a cooling-off period of at least 24 hours before they take effect, giving you time to reconsider.
Taking a break
All UKGC-licensed operators must offer a temporary self-exclusion option, sometimes called a “cooling-off period” or “time-out”, ranging from 24 hours to 6 weeks. During a time-out, your account is suspended and you will not receive marketing communications. You can request a time-out from any operator’s responsible-gambling page without needing to close your account permanently.
Reality checks
UKGC regulations require online gambling products to display session reminders. You can configure the frequency of these reminders in your operator account settings. A reminder that appears every 30 minutes, showing your session duration and net win or loss, is a useful anchor if you find yourself losing track of time during in-play golf betting.
Warning signs
Consider talking to someone if any of the following apply: you wager more than you planned on a regular basis; you chase losses (place further bets to recover money you have lost); gambling has caused arguments with family or friends; you have borrowed money to fund a wager; you feel anxious or irritable when not gambling. These are common early indicators. Free support is available before a problem becomes severe.
